This video is for people who have not lived in Seattle, and don't really understand why people around here take forecast of snow as seriously as we do. BioLite Firepit Review - wood cooking
This'll do nicely, thanks for the video Sir
Best bang for the buck rattle can that I found that works with reaper bones is the Rustoleum automotive primer labeled “wet sandable” in the light gray. The dark gray is kinda crap. The light gray dries very quickly and isn’t sticky. Also the krylon ultra flat camo black seems to have a different formulation than the other colors and works pretty well with bones. Good luck finding it now though!
seriously. Every time I go to a big box I swing through the paint aisle and I'm amazed at how limited the selection is. Good to know about the wet sandable primer.
@@Gowaduv Heads up that it smells terrible, so it's definitely one to spray outdoors. Smell dissipates quickly though, b/c it dries very fast.
"sorry for the crunchy plastic" Ever heard of ASMR? 2:50
I have just used rustoleum 2x black primer. And my mini is sticky hours later... what do I do?? Can I airbrush a base coat over it?
RUclips sucks when it comes to notifying me about comments, my apologies for taking so long to reply. Rustoleum 2x did not dry in my testing. The best thing to do is strip the paint using Simple Green/LA's Totally Awesome/your mini paint stripper of choice, and a toothbrush. If you painted over it, please let me know how it turned out. I'm curious whether a tacky primer coat matters to the end result.
Spray it with Rustoleum frosted glass spray. Works like a charm for sticky prime jobs. 👍👍
I’ve also used the frosted glass as a primer for bones but I don’t like it so much bc I can’t gauge coverage due to it being clear. Plus using it alone isn’t a good base for contrast paints or painting methods where you use transparent paints.
Plz make more content about d&d and other stuff
Nice job 👍
Re the Krylon fusion if like to point out that you used "gloss" which I've read in a number of places is advised against, instead you should try to find satin or matte.
Interesting... thanks for the idea. I wouldn't have thought the finish would make that much difference. If someone's willing to send me a can, I'll do an update. Currently I have that $20 can of Citadel primer, all of these spray cans and more than a quart of DIY brush-on gesso. That stuff I really like for ease of application, detail and surface tooth.
Very informative. thank you
The males emerge first, then await the females. They mate soon after, then they spend the next six-eight weeks eating and pollinating-pollinating a thousand times better than a honey bee. The males die but the females live on for a few more weeks laying about six eggs each and hiding them in long tube chambers one at a time. Using regurgitated foods, the female encloses each each in cocoon-like chamber inside the tube (often reeds although Songbird Essentials carries a remarkable selection of mason bee houses). The eggs hatch in the Fall, but the bee stays in the cocoon all winter. When it eats it's way out in late April after a few warm days in a row, it is already a full grown mason bee. Looks like you actually purchased a box of dormant bees still in their chambers. Looks like a box of rocks, but inside, much is going on. Mason bees could become Americas answer to the alarming collapse of the honey bee colonies. And mason bees seldom sting either.
Thanks for the added detail. Last year I ended up with about eight full tubes from the two ladies who were working their tails off all spring. Of those I harvested on the order of 20 cocoons in the fall; the rest were damaged by boring wasps or the chamber looked like nothing was deposited therein. These cocoons are from Crown Bee near Seattle, though, because the local birds ate my harvest from last season. We're getting to the end of the "wake up" season and the six cocoons left (three males and three females, based on the size of the pods) don't have much longer to get going. Two females are definitely at work, and they've managed to complete two 6" tubes. I can also see mud debris in at least three other tubes. Fingers are crossed for a good bee harvest this year.
I've heard where some housing subdivisions in California are requiring residents to put out mason bee houses to help the almond growers with pollination efforts. Some farms are having to pollinate trees by hand using long telescoping poles with "sticky mitts" attached on the ends. Workers walk the almond tree aisles swinging their poles with the mitts from the male trees to the female trees in an effort to help pollinate.. I think you're on to something good. I see where kids are learning about it too. There's a children's book out called Mason and the Mason Bee.
the more videos I see of the biolite fire pit the less impressed I get. is it really worth the asking price over a non fan assisted pit or grill
Hard to say. I did appreciate the fan while camping when starting a new fire, or stoking a fire that had died down. Not having to put my face into a cloud of smoke was a pleasant change from the norm. Price-wise it's on par with the "higher end" firepit options, but it's dozens of times more expensive than the old washer drum that my friend uses at his place.
An early release has been very interesting.
It feels like they moved up the release to capture some of the excitement for the trailer for Season 3.
@@Gowaduv Possibly.

Question: I've heard rumors of a typo on the paladin character sheet, does the paladin have the cleric's spells on it?
To address the rumor - there is not a typo (at least nothing as egregious as you're referring to). I think what happened was another RUclipsr thought there was an error when he reviewed the box set a couple weeks ago (he rolled high on the luck tables and happened to be at a ThinkGeek store the day the box dropped). He was rushing through the character builds and was like "huh, paladin with cleric spells.... whaaaaa?" But in 5E pallys get spells at 2nd level. Most (if not all) of those spells are also on the cleric table, and I suspect that other reviewer is more familiar with clerics than pallys. The pregen character sheet doesn't give a list of starting spells but it does call out the spells the PC gets at level 5: Aid and Magic Weapon. Aid is also a cleric spell, but Magic Weapon is a wizard spell. I cross referenced the sheet with the rules in the 5E PHB and it looks correct. The relevant spell lists in the ST player's guide set are as follows Paladin Spells Level 1: Bless, Command, Cure Wounds, Detect Magic, Protection from Good and Evil, Shield of Faith Level 2: Aid, Lesser Restoration, Magic Weapon, Zone of Truth Cleric Spells Level 1: Bless, Command, Cure Wounds, Detect Magic, Guiding Bolt, Healing Word, Inflict Wounds, Protection from Good and Evil, Sanctuary, Shield of Faith Level 2: Aid, Augury, Hold Person, Lesser Restoration, Silence, Spiritual Weapon, Zone of Truth
@@Gowaduv thanks!
How many percentile dice do you need? The answer is always one. More sets should come as a six set as you never need another d% but the other dice are useful. If you wanted to be true to the 80's the game would have a crayon to colour in the numbers on the dice!
Haha. Need? One. Want? One more. I don't miss the "color your own dice" days, but the set of six is evocative of the early days. Thanks for watching
The Starter Set for 5E box set looks similar. Same dice 6. Good dice, chesex I think only a slightly different mold then the standard one they use. Came with a DM rule book, a player rule book, and I think an adventure book for levels 1-7.
Ooh. Now I'm intrigued by the dice. Chessex has one mold style, so if they are different I wonder who's making the dice for this. I strongly suspect this is that same 5E beginner set reskinned for ST with a custom adventure. We'll find out as soon as mine arrives
The Reaper bones one at the beginning is by far my least favorite owlbear mini. I have owlbears going back to the 80s and I refused to get that one based on the sculpt.
It really is ridiculous, but it bridges the gap between the modern, easy to get sculpts and perhaps nicer models that were available before the early 2000s. I'd love to see some photos if you'd like to share a link.
It just doesn't looks a esthetically apelaing
Kindling on the bottom comments, with all the extra air pumped in the area if the fire lights do what ya like. This biolite makes me hungry!
I enjoyed such a complete review
Thanks for watching!
FDG has great minis for print. They come out great in resin printers as well.
I expect resin printers will get less expensive in 2019. I'm hopeful the resins will be less toxic, as well. Thanks for watching!
In addition to large quantities of prints, I have modified models to suit my needs. This is a Tiamat that I printed with a 23" wingspan. If I could find one for sale, I doubt I'd be able to afford it. imgur.com/gallery/cJhiPiS
Best comparison video out there :D thanks
Thanks! I figured that people who were searching for 3.0 already know what it's about and don't need to listen to me read the label for 3.0 minutes ;) I hope the comparison between the paints is useful
I bought this firepit from Biolite direct. The power pack is not working properly right from the box. I have waited for 4 days so far to hear back about my defective power pack and still nothing...not impressed.
The folks on the biolite firepit owners group at Facebook say they've emailed Firepit@bioliteenergy.com and have had prompt results. Good luck!
Needs a domed lid of some sort for use as a charcoal grill. With that, I'd think about one of these to replace my folding Pyromid stove...
Lol actually made one lol
I bought a cast iron skillet and placed it on the top and was able to fit 8 burgers on it and it cooked it fine.
We're optimistic about most of our camp cooking equipment, just not the dutch oven with the three feet. What size skillet is it?
Lodge makes a camp oven as well as the dutch oven. Camp oven doesn't have the feet. If you need feet just roll up allunium into balls to act like a divet. I have a 10 inch, and 12 inch, and you can share lids with your skillets.
My only issue with Lodge, I wish the finish their skillets and make them smooth, but it would destroy the price point. Some people with get out the grinder, and re-season. The camp oven works well in kitchen as crock pot in the oven. If weight isn't a issue, a 18 wheeler front rim works great as a fire pit in a more permanent camp. My only issue is grade of steel they use in the stove, I would like to a see a heavier gauge. If I am car camping, weight doesn't matter to me as long as its still man portable or a I can easily put it into a portable wagon.
That's a bizarre way to start a fire. Why do you put the kindling on top? Wouldn't it be more efficient to put that under the bigger pieces of wood?
generally I would agree with you. However there's the matter of the fuel sitting on a grate so most kindling is going to fall through. I used the wood as a base and built the fire on top, just like we have to do in the PNW when it's been raining and the ground is wet.
Thanks so much for your kind reply. I truly appreciate it. Over that recent decade I have learned that a lot of innovative and unconventional fire builds work. Here in the Saint Croix Riverway National Park I have found that what folks up north call the "upside down fire" works very well for a large campfire in a fire ring. It's similar to what you did. We simply set several pieces of big wood on end then build a small tepee fire centered on top. As it burns down embers fall between bigger wood and start it burning. The fire then burns outward from the center. As they burn, big chunks fall toward each other and continue burning without requiring a lot of rearrangement.

Awesome. This looks like a great group for folks to keep in touch about delivery schedules and the few fitment issues that have popped up. Thanks for the add to the group.
I own one of these. The “smoke” when cooking is probably from the FOOD/JUICES not the wood unless it’s wet/damp wood. The fan is not loud at all. The wood when dry lasts a long time in my uses during camp outs. I love this firepit! (Super easy to clean with that TRAP DOOR on the bottom!)
🤗👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😌
I ha Jed the camp stove, base lantern, I have the base camp stove... I so wish I pulled the trigger on this. It was on my watch list on Kickstarter from when it was launched... looking good!
Thanks. We got the campstove 2 with the grill attachment when we kickstarted this. We're super excited to get back to camping in a couple weeks - we're going to put all of this stuff through its paces.
I had clamping issues also. The top of the squared off part attached to the power pack was a fraction to high to slip under the the black mating part on the end of the pit. While putting pressure towards the pit with the pack, I tapped the rectangle down under the black apart.
It sounds like this is one of the few times I got lucky with a product. Thanks for letting us know how you took care of the problem.
Loved the music! What’s the name of this song? Thank you
I really like that, too (it's way better than huge chunks of silence). That is Galaxia by Bruno E., one of the ~150 or so songs that are available for use by RUclips for videos. This is where the link on the creator page goes for Bruno E. ruclips.net/user/BrunoEmusicvideos
whoops! I was using Galaxia for a different project. This song is Freshly Fallen Snow by Chris Haugen ruclips.net/channel/UCNXDIltPLbdcAavUtL00i7g
Thanks for the review
Thanks for the video
What do you think in terms of the fit and finish / durability of this stove? It seems really pricey as a charcoal grill that only fits 4 burgers... Thanks for doing these reviews btw!!
I mentioned in my first review that the top rack had a few wires warp. I would prefer that all the grates be the same 1/4" stock. Aside from that I've been happy with the design and build. We'll put it through its paces the first weekend in August when we go camping again. Our goal is to have it be the only cooking heat source. Up front that means no dutch-oven cooking. If we wanted only a charcoal grill I would definitely get a small Weber. However, we've had enough issue with rain when camping (and the subsequent issues with getting a hot cook fire on wet ground) that we though we'd give this a shot.
Excellent, thank you for showing us both methods. Probably one of the first videos out there showing charcoal approach. All in all they cooked very nicely. Need to figure out the process of starting it up with less smoke!
Glad you liked the video. Charcoal chimneys are always very smokey but it only takes a page of newsprint to light them. What you're seeing is all the smoke concentrated through the 10" tube, instead of spread out like it would be on a grill.
Charcoal update: ruclips.net/video/Abb0ixMN55M/видео.html
smoke on lower settings?! cancel that preorder!
To balance marketing and engineering, the online brochure says "way less smoke than a traditional fire pit" and I think that's true
Hi, would you say that fan noise would interfere with people talking around the fire pit? Also, please try charcoal on this for smoke. Thank you!
I don't think the fan is really noticeable unless it's on max. But it's not too loud to talk over. I'll definitely do a follow up with a bag of charcoal - thanks!
you asked .... ruclips.net/video/Abb0ixMN55M/видео.html
toosas once you get a fire base set, adding more logs didn’t create smoke when I tested mine. Just got yesterday, was in the back yard tonight. It creates WAY WAY LESS smoke than your standard fire pit or grill.
great
@Mr420rush Agreed. I made a forge over the holidays that uses two bricks and I used a box saw (the kind used in a miter box) to cut the bricks to the depth I needed, made several cuts and chipped away what I didn't need. I used regular drill bits to make the hole for the burner port.
just quick tip, I found that hack saws are AMAZING for cutting/Shaping bricks
@virtualhermit Or maybe a 1/3 brick forge by the time it broke :) I used it a few times, but I find it easier to work with an entire brick.
1/2 a brick forge...
@guillotin15 I think any of the small torches like the one in the video will work. Propane is plenty hot for this size forge- you won't need to add oxygen or use MAPP gas.
you can use any propane torch ¿
@Makermook 1) I carve the holes all the way through because longer pieces may need to go all the way through. I don't know that the hole -needs- to go all the way through. If you're only working the end of a piece, I don't suppose there's a need to go all the way. 2) In the first one-brick forge I show in the video, the hole goes all the way through, the burner port is in the middle of the brick and will easily heat 3-5 inches.
That's something I want to do. As a matter of fact, I ordered 2 soft firebricks specifically for that purpose and they arrived yesterday. If you can please tell me: 1) Why did you put the hole all the way through the brick? 2) If you made the cavity longer, eliminated the back hole, and put the burner inlet further back toward the back of the cavity, would the whole cavity get hot enough to work 3-5" of a piece at a time?
